Digital x-rays or radiographs are administered during a dental examination to provide a more thorough picture of your teeth and gums. They make it easier for seasoned dentist Dr. Andrew Flipse to diagnose problems that aren't visible, and to understand more about your oral health by showing the interior of your teeth, jaw, and gums. There are numerous dental and oral problems that may be diagnosed with digital x-rays, including tooth decay, cavities, abscesses, cysts, impactions, and bone loss. If these problems are found in the early stages, you can be treated more efficiently with more treatment options. As part of your annual dental examination at Implant & General Dentistry in Murfreesboro, TN, digital x-rays will help Dr. Flipse more accurately diagnose and correct dental issues.

"I had a complex situation with a discontinued implant that needed restoring. I had a prosthodontist colleague tell me they couldn’t help. I knew Dr Flipse had a lot of experience so I brought it up to him casually And he took it and ran. It took two appointments and they got the tooth restored! The most impressive part is how efficiently that office runs and how professional and friendly his staff are. They are a well oiled machine for sure. I had a wonderful experience there and highly recommend them ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️"- J.D. / Google / Mar 16, 2021

Typically, digital x-rays are included in a routine dental exam. Digital x-rays may be performed as a preventive measure or if you are concerned about dental issues of any kind. Even though digital x-rays emit significantly less radiation compared to traditional x-rays, Implant & General Dentistry prefers to limit the amount of exposure that is delivered to every patient. Although digital x-rays are typically safe for all patients, female patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding should tell Dr. Flipse at the start of their exam so that extra cautionary steps may be taken.
What to Expect
Typically performed at the start of a dental cleaning or exam, digital imaging takes about 5 – 10 minutes to complete. Once they are taken, the images will be uploaded to be viewed by you and Dr. Flipse throughout your appointment. Dr. Flipse will be able to show you any abnormalities and discuss what treatments may be needed.
A set of digital x-rays will typically be taken once a year at your annual dental examination. During certain exams, a full mouth set may be taken for a comprehensive view of your teeth, gums, and jawbone. Your digital x-rays will be kept with your file at Implant & General Dentistry so Dr. Flipse can watch for trends and address any areas of concern.
Typically, a dental insurance plan will cover the cost of digital x-rays as part of a routine dental exam. Our office can talk to your insurance provider to determine potential costs. If you have any remaining costs or if you are not using insurance, Implant & General Dentistry accepts several methods of payment, and we can help you find financing.
Digital x-rays are a great tool that can help to diagnose developing oral health problems. As part of an annual dental examination, digital x-rays can give Dr. Flipse a better understanding that allows him to see any hidden issues to be addressed before you feel pain.
