Dr. Walter C. Chitwood, Jr.
Dr. Walter Chitwood, one of only a handful of board certified implant dentists in Tennessee, is both a skilled dental practitioner and an educator to patients and fellow dentists. He holds several teaching appointments, including Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Dentistry, and Faculty member of the AAID MaxiCourses in Oregon and Rutgers School of Dental Medicine.
Dr. Chitwood has directed his full energies toward developing an implant dentistry practice and to promoting the field of implant dentistry. Implant & General Dentistry of Middle Tennessee, with its blend of state-of-the-art facilities, equipment, and techniques, can effectively provide the many benefits offered by dental implant therapy.
Over the years, Dr. Chitwood has received many honors, such as being recognized as a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry, Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantology, Master of the Academy of Implants & Transplants, Honored Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, Fellow of the American Society of Osseointegration, and Fellow of the Academy of Dentistry International and serves on the Board of Directors of the Tennessee Academy of General Dentistry.
In addition to his private practice and lecturing, Dr. Chitwood is very involved with the community. He frequently takes time away from his practice to travel on medical mission trips (Over 30 trips to Mexico and Nicaragua since 1995).
Dr. Chitwood is also honored to be selected as the Athletic Dentist for Middle Tennessee State University and has been named by the United States Olympic Committee to serve as an attending dentist to Team USA. He also plays in the orchestra at his church.
Dr. Chitwood and his wife, Denise, have three children: Carleigh, Mary Ansley, and Walt III.
